SHIVA

thumbnail study for Bhairava
studies in oils/gouache
oil studies, also if you can spot the header.
i thought i will at least update the post with more news and art.
Working on my upcoming show titled dhyana shakti ( based on goddess myths and legends)
is keeping me completely occupied rather disconnected from the world these days.

these are two paintings from my previous show Dhyana roopa. 2010 december, traditional gouache on paper, and ink on paper- 7ft x 5ft,
some thumbnail studies done for the show,WIP pictures and one to suggest the scale of the painting.
NEWS on the BOOK, we have finally stitched the whole thing together, with an afterword, editor's note, a sketch gallery, glossary, it's looking all complete now.
I've been really holding on to the temptation of announcing the publisher.
and a BIG art post with exclusive art form the book is NEXT in line, just a little wait before it all happens.
THANK YOU everyone who's been coming to this space and leaving your precious comments behind. Thank you.

my upcoming show titled dhyana shakti ( based on goddess myths and legends)
is keeping me completely occupied rather disconnected from the world these days.
i've been exploring various themes and possibilities from last two years on it,
and it's been both insightful and fun.
a question i get asked often.
how do you decide now is the time to create the final works?
it's instinctive i suppose and differs from artist to artist.
i believe that what makes work special for me is the amount of patience you invest into it and learning you cull out of it.
i recently looked at the stacks of sketches i've done for the theme, plus few colored samples to find my process, attempts to find my own template of painting and creating.
i decided that the time has come to translate some of them into final paintings.
i usually pick the most ambitious as my first piece as it sets the tone for the entire show, this one is 6ft by 15ft, horizontal layout.
it depicts the feminine trinity and the worlds they come from, so it has tons of elements in it, and because i have so many elements in it, compositional proportions become even more important and that though loaded it should still exude calmness, and should invite the audience into the painting to explore the drawn worlds.
let's see how much of this works out, i'll soon post some work in progress pictures.

NOW the BOOK, we have finally stitched the whole thing together, it's looking all complete now with an afterword, editor's note, a sketch gallery, glossary, etc.
i've been really holding on to the temptation of announcing the publisher, but as i promised surly by the next post.
and a BIG art post with exclusive art form the book, i'll be posting it all, just a little wait before it all happens.
THANK YOU everyone who's been coming to this space and leaving your precious comments behind. Thank you.

Thank you everyone, i remember starting this blog way back in april 2008, my job had reached it's expiry date (everything has one i firmly believe lol:) no it wasn't the job, it was me, i was tired of finding what i wanted to do in someone else's project, i thought it was both unfair and absurd, so i cut my corporate strands and renegotiated my annual budgets ( basically i canceled my due vacation plus night outs plus eating outside etc), with determination in mind and some savings i resorted to only do what i wanted creatively, i gifted myself an "Opportunity" and that's when i decided to put some of my work up online, couldn't do that before because of silly company policies, it not some morse code you are trying to safeguard it's ART man, just share it, but an emotion less understood by guys who run these so called creative machines, anyways my point was that it was an accelerating experience putting my work up online, connecting to artists, people, who were sharing the same emotion and had blogs, it was the first wave.
now when the world has shrunk into a mobile phone and social networking has swallowed patience in all possible ways, i still when i come to this Blog feel a sense of thankfulness.
the possibility it gave to a disconnected artist.
virtuality in it's most humble way is an enabler, unbiased presenter of a rhetoric, this blog is one such presenter, on such friend who lugged along, who kept my work on a cloud twenty four, seven, showed it to everyone who typed the magic code.
i just wanted to say Thank you to my blog, That no matter how many likes i'd get on any other virtual platform, you'd always remain my favorite:)
and yes, Thank you everyone, who ended up reading this scrap, sometimes it just comes out:)

Hi there,
I think that changing set figurative notions about Indian mythological characters is a quite a task in itself. Your artwork of Shiva is an incredible representation of the deity. I just happened to read this blog and I'm glad i did. Good luck with your show & i hope i do get to see or buy your work sometime :).

P.s - The sketch of Durga is what actually bought me to your blog.
